This is one of the best books I’ve read in the last couple of years & it has definitely made it onto my favourites list!!! Yanagihara’s style seems to be absolutely effortless, the story flowing so easily from chapter to chapter that you don’t even notice yourself flipping over the pages.
To sum it up, I guess the best & most impressive part of it, is how emotionally touching it is. Not sure if it was the altitude while being on a plane & being more emotional because of it, but I’ve spent hours crying while reading it 😲
The driving force in the beginning, once you get through around the first hundred pages, is the secret childhood story of one of the characters. It develops slowly throughout the book and the different points of view of the characters, as well as the changing narratives, are put together magnificently.
Even though it’s an about 800 page book, I didn’t notice the time pass by while reading it, which is one of the best signs in my opinion.
An absolute suggestion from my side & a well deserved grade of 5 out of 5 stars ✨
