I have stumbled across this book through a list of “highly rated books” here on goodreads, but I’ve got to say, that its target audience is & stays young adults (if not even kids & young teenagers).
The story has an interesting idea, though it lacks in execution. It reminds a bit of “Brave New World” with its setting & a seemingly idealistic society. What felt the most disturbing though, was the fact that there were logical gaps within the story [! spoiler alert ! – If the community is so gated & protected, how could the protagonist escape so easily from it? And how could him & the child he has escaped with, have stayed alive for so long on the barest minimum of food??]
All in all, while writing the review, I have finally lowered it to just 2 out of 5 stars, since in my opinion, it simply lacks depth.
If you’re still curious about it, give it a read, at least it’s a quick one & you wouldn’t be wasting your time.
